Why a bike fit is worth more than a carbon upgrade
Numb hands, sore knees and a neck that aches after an hour are all fit problems. None of them are solved by a lighter frame.
Riders regularly come in wanting a lighter frame to fix discomfort. A frame will not fix discomfort. Position will.
Numb hands usually mean too much weight through the bars, which means the saddle is too far forward, too high at the nose, or the reach is too long. Sore knees at the front usually mean the saddle is too low. Sore knees at the back usually mean it is too high.
A fit session starts with cleat position, then saddle height and setback, then reach and bar height last. Changing them out of order means chasing your own adjustments in circles.
Bring the shoes you actually ride in, the shorts you actually ride in, and allow two hours. You will leave with a position, a set of measurements you can transfer to any future bike, and a follow-up appointment two weeks later once your body has adapted.
It costs a fraction of a carbon upgrade and will make more difference to how long you can stay on the bike.
