Commuting by e-bike in KL: what actually works

Range anxiety is rarely the problem. Secure parking, heat and route choice are. Practical notes from riders who do it daily.

Every e-bike customer asks about range. Almost none of them run out of battery. A 630Wh battery covers a typical 15km each-way commute for most of a week, and you charge it at your desk anyway.

The real constraints are elsewhere. Secure parking comes first. Check what your building offers before you buy, and budget for a proper lock rated for the value of the bike, not the cheapest chain on the shelf.

Heat is the second. Assist level changes everything here. Riders who drop to the lowest assist and ride slowly arrive dripping. Riders who use a higher assist and keep the effort low arrive comfortable. The motor is there to keep you out of a sweat, so use it.

Route choice is third. The shortest route is usually the worst one. Spend an evening plotting a slightly longer route on quieter roads and you will keep commuting for years instead of a fortnight.

Finally, service intervals are shorter than on a normal bike. More weight and more torque means brake pads and chains wear faster. Book a check every 1,500km and it will stay cheap.
